George Afriyie declares intention to contest GFA Presidency

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie has declared his intention to contest for President in the upcoming GFA presidential election.

The astute football administrator announced in a press release on Sunday night as the latest to join the race.

We need to move on from repetitive mistakes towards a more practical approach to solving problems. In these challenging times, I come in as a beacon of hope believing in the immense potential of Ghana Football to rise above adversities,” he said.

Outlining his vision for the association when he comes to power, the Susubribi FC CEO revealed his intentions to restore Ghana’s football integrity.

I offer a vision for a future where our national teams will continuously compete at the highest level. Our local clubs and the league will thrive and our young talents are given the equal opportunities they deserve,” he added.

Again Mr Afriyie threw lights on how he would fix the fundamentals of the Ghanaian football community.

We will inspire generation and rekindle the enthusiasm and pride that Ghana football is known for. With my vast experience and deep knowledge about Ghana football, I’m dedicated to implementing efficient and effective strategies that will drive the development and growth of our football.”

I will ensure that the GFA operates with the highest level of professionalism and competence devoid of nepotism, cronyism and vindictiveness. With your support,  we will make sure Ghana football is rescued once again and restored to it rightful place.“

“I assure you that under my leadership, these failures and display of incompetence shall be rectified“, he added.

George Afriyie contested in the previous GFA presidential election but conceded defeat following a tie with Kurt Okraku in 2019.

Mr Afriyie had earlier served as the Vice President of the Ghana Football Association from 2015-2018 under the Kwesi Nyantakyi administration.
