We had to wait until November 14 for CAF to unveil the identities of the contenders for the Best African Women’s Player trophy. With a view to the CAF Awards 2023, to be held in Morocco on December 11, the Confederation of African Football has published the list of the 30 players shortlisted for the ultimate accolade. Nigerian title-holder Asisat Oshoala is on the list, as are six of her compatriots following their brilliant performances at the Women’s World Cup. South African and Moroccan players are also well represented, having also shone at this competition. Malawian Tabitha Chawinga, a new attraction in the French women’s championship with Paris Saint-Germain, is also in attendance.
