Yaya Touré declares his admiration for Sadio Mané

Yaya Touré is outspoken about Sadio Mané. The former Côte d’Ivoire international is a huge fan of the Senegalese striker. His most fervent wish was to play with him at Manchester City.

Yaya Touré is completely under the spell of Sadio Mané’s game. The former Ivorian midfielder has always kept a close eye on the player’s performances since Southampton. He even wanted to bring the Senegalese star to Manchester City.

Speaking on BBC Sport Africa’s Match of the Day Africa: Top 10 on the Premier League’s best African player, the 40-year-old former Ivorian midfielder says: “When I was at City, when he was at Southampton, I thought a lot of him and I asked some of my superiors to sign him, but in the end it didn’t happen.”

Yaya Touré continued:“After that, Klopp had eyes for him and now look at what he did for Liverpool, he was brilliant.I love him, I love him as a player.”

Sadio Mané is also known for his humanitarian work, particularly in his home village of Bambaly in southern Senegal. An example for Yaya Touré to follow. “The way he handles things smoothly and the support he gives to his people in his country is incredible, given what he has been involved in,” added Touré.

Yaya Touré is also impressed by the player’s humility. “Some days I go crazy when I read about him in the media and a journalist asks him: ‘Why don’t you have a Ferrari and everything’, and he says: ‘No, I don’t need it, I’d rather have a normal car than a Ferrari. Two months later, we see him, he’s doing things in his home country, he’s a great example,” concluded the former Mancunian. Statements that will no doubt please the Bayern Munich striker.
