Nigeria are striking hard at the Women’s World Cup 2023. After seeing off Olympic champions Canada (0-0), the Super Falcons came from behind to defeat hosts Australia (3-2). The victory takes the Super Falcons a step closer to the Round of 8.

Sensational! After holding reigning Olympic champions Canada to a 0-0 draw, Nigeria took on Australia (3-2), hosts of the Women’s World Cup and semi-finalists at the last Olympics. The Super Falcons controlled the match from start to finish without a moment’s hesitation. Even though they conceded the opening goal to E. Van Egmond (45+1). However, the nine-time African champions soon got back on level terms thanks to striker Uchenna Kanu (45+6). The two teams went into the locker room level at 1-1.

After the restart, both teams struggled to find the back of the net. Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum made two changes that changed the complexion of the match. Asisat Oshoala replaced Kanu (64th), while Okoronkwo replaced Onumonu (63rd). And Nigeria scored immediately. Ohale doubled Nigeria’s lead (65th).

As soon as she came on, Oshoala shook the net. The FC Barcelona striker pounced on an Australian defensive error and headed the ball into the net. In just 26 minutes of play, Oshoala took three shots, including one goal.Enough to propel Nigeria to the top of Group B ahead of Canada (2nd, 4pts). For the first time in their history, Nigeria have gone two matches unbeaten at the same World Cup.

The final day of Group B will be decisive. Although both Canada and Nigeria are in pole position for the Round of 8, Australia (3rd, 3pts) have not yet said their last word.So there’ll be suspense all the way to the end.
