Following Ghana’s elimination at the World Cup, Otto Addo wasted no time in announcing his resignation as Black Stars coach that was in a press conference in Ghana.
It was an expected departure, as he is under contract with Borussia Dortmund (as talent scout) and it will permit him to resume duties for the remainder of his contract with the German juggernauts.

The former Bundesliga midfielder explained at a press conference on Dec. 5 : “My decision has nothing to do with our results. Our agreement would have ended even if we had been world champions.”
In very clear terms Addo reiterated his position as talent coach at Dortmund and also praised the Ghanian FA for their relentless efforts in striking a deal with Dortmund, allowing Addo to coach the Black Stars for a period of six months. He insisted that the brief coaching job for his homeland was a once in a life time offer and he remains proud to have seized it. He also said there are possibilities he could one day in the future be reunited with the Black Stars but at least not in the next two and a half seasons as his contract with Dortmund still runs.
Assistant coach with the Black Stars in September and promoted coach since February, the ex-Ghanaian international did not manage to get his country out of the group stage, following the 2-0 defeat against Uruguay in the group H decider.
After Roberto Martínez of Belgium and Gerardo Martino of Mexico Addo became the third coach at the World Cup to resign.
