Le président de la FAF démissionne

Football: Algerian FA president resigns

After less than a year in office, the President of the Algerian Football Federation has declared his resignation in a video posted on the FAF’s official website. The loss of his seat on the CAF Executive Committee was the main reason for his departure.

The chair of President of the Algerian Football Federation no longer has an occupant. In a video posted on the FAF’s official website, Djahid Zefizef announced his resignation on Sunday July 16. “This speech is related to the last CAF General Assembly, which took place a few days ago in Côte d’Ivoire, and during which I stood for election to win a place on the CAF Executive Board. This was one of the most important goals we were working towards. We did everything we could and used every legal means to achieve this goal, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough,” Zefizef explained.

“In this case, I announce my resignation from my position as President of the Algerian Football Federation, and I would like to thank the Algerian people and the authorities for the great help and trust they have given me. I wish all the best for Algerian soccer”,
concluded the now ex-president of the FAF.

Two failures too many

Having arrived at the head of the FAF less than a year ago, Zefizef’s plane never got off the ground due to the many criticisms he has faced since taking office. Influential within the FAF for 10 years, this member of the CAF audit commission, general manager of the national team and then president of the federation precipitated his downfall after two hot files were doomed to failure.

Djahid Zefizef’s bid to host the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco, after Guinea withdrew from the competition, was defeated by the Cherifian Kingdom, which is due to host the continental event after Côte d’Ivoire in 2024. At the 45th General Assembly of the CAF, the now ex-president of the FAF suffered a major humiliation when he lost his seat on the Comex to represent the UNAF zone (North Africa) for the period 2023-2027 to his Libyan counterpart Abdelhakim Al Shelmani.
