Manchester City win the European Super Cup for the first time in their history. In a match that went down to the wire, the Champions League winners overcame Sevilla on penalties.
There was suspense right to the end. The European Super Cup between Manchester City and Sevilla lived up to all its promises. And in the opening minutes, it was the Europa League winners who dominated proceedings. The Andalusians put the pressure on the Skyblues, who struggled to get their game going. A situation that was not to last. Manchester City managed to create chances. Cole Palmer tried a crushing left-footed shot, but Bounou calmly parried the ball away (7th). The same Palmer was back at it again. Following a well-executed corner, he sent a fine cross to the head of Aké, who managed to get his shot on target, but again came up against the Moroccan keeper, who made a fine save.
Despite dominating the game, Manchester City were stunned by Sevilla. The Andalusian club opened the scoring with a goal from En-Nesyri.The Moroccan headed Acuna’s cross into the side-netting (25th). Manchester City tried to get back into the game, but were unable to break the deadlock. Both teams returned to the dressing room with a score of 1-0.

The English champions went on to dominate in the closing stages, but were never able to kill the game off and so there were no further goals in this match. It was time for penalties to decide the winner. In the end, Manchester City won by 5-4. Sevilla’s last kicker, Gudelj, hit the bar to sway the title for the Mancunians.
