Al Ahly in the men’s category and Primero de Agosto in the women’s category won the African handball Championship of Cup Winning Clubs (CACCH2023) held in Brazzaville. The two teams dominated the proceedings and eventually triumphed, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
They continue to dominate handball on the continent. At the end of the 2023 edition of the African Championship of Champions Clubs held in Brazzaville (CACCH 2023), Al Ahly and Primero de Agosto took the trophies in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. This is a regular occurrence for both teams, who shine every time they take part in the competition. This was particularly true of Primero’s Angolan team, who not only clinched another continental title, but also a trophy they jealously guard. And once again, they claimed the Grail in a 100% Angolan final.

Except that this time it was Petro Luanda. No mean feat, but the Pirmero girls once again lived up to their billing with a hard-fought victory (28-26). Although they were well ahead at the break (16-11), they gave themselves a scare after the break as their opponents came back strongly and the gap melted away. But they managed to come out on top once again. In the match for 3rd place in the CACCH 2023, local club DGSP came out on top against Al Ahly (33-23). The final ranking is completed by Bandama (5th), FAP (6th), Nziko (7th) and Grain de Sel (8th) who close the gap.
In the men’s table, in the absence of arch-rivals Zamalek and Tunisian clubs such as Esperance Tunis and Etoile du Sahel, Ahly made their superiority count by overcoming the surprising Jeunesse Sportive de Kinshasa team. In the final for the first time in their history, the Congolese could only observe the gap that still separates them from the Egyptians, who won in style (37-23). Led by Omar Khaled, who was named best player of the final, Al Ahly once again climbed to the top of the podium. The podium was completed by BMC, who beat Cameroon’s FAP (24-23). The ranking matches produced the following verdict: Nziko (5th), Adjidja HBC (6th), Red Star (7th) and Petro Sport (8th) rounded off the CA 2023.
