AFCON 2023: Central African Republic accuses referee of eliminating them in Ghana

Accusations have been levelled at the Kenyan referee of the match between Ghana and the Central African Republic. The Fauves’ national coach points the finger at the referee, who favored the Black Stars, who booked their ticket for the next AFCON 2023 following their 2-1 home win on Thursday September 7.

Central African Republic coach Raoul Savoy was visibly upset after his team’s 2-1 defeat by Ghana on Thursday September 7. The French coach even cursed the Black Stars ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations. After the match, Savoy was quick to show his frustration, suggesting that Ghana’s future performance at the competition would be just as dismal as their last. At the 2021 edition played in Cameroon, Ghana scored just one point and were eliminated prematurely in the group phase.

He did not stopped there. The Frenchman went so far as to accuse Kenyan referee Peter Waweru of having favoured Ghana, who benefited from favourable refereeing. Savoy did not mince his words.”Your next AFCON will be like your last,” predicted the Central African Republic coach.

This was enough to set tempers flaring in the press conference room at Kumasi stadium. But the die has already been cast. However, the Central African Republic will have to go through the next round of qualifying if they are to qualify for the first time for an African Cup of Nations finals.
