The extraordinary elective general assembly to renew the governing bodies of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) may not be held on September 2 as initially planned. The fault of the communiqué n° 01596/MJSECFQE-CAB made public on the evening of September 1st by the Ministry of Sports.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports, Civic Education, Skills Training and Employment informs the national opinion that the extraordinary elective general assembly to renew the governing bodies of the Congolese Federation of Football scheduled for September 2, can not be held,” reads the document signed by the Minister of Sports, Hugues Ngouelondélé.
For the latter, “the conditions for a democratic, peaceful, transparent and fair general assembly are not met.
However, the FECOFOOT said it was unaware of the statement of Mr. Ngouelondelé for not having been notified. Consequently, “the elective general assembly will indeed take place on September 2 in Brazzaville”, according to Emmanuel Kaba, press officer of FECOFOOT.
Seemingly all the delegations coming from the interior of the country as well as the delegates of international institutions including FIFA are already set to honor the event with their presence. This could give rise to a real arm wrestling between the ministry and FECOFOOT. This could create a crisis that could lead FIFA to dissolve the governing bodies of the Federation. And even set up a committee for normalization.
