Burkina Faso’s Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 leagues have come to a standstill. Why is this? Some clubs have simply decided to boycott matchday 11, scheduled for the weekend of November 11-12.“The Professional Football League informs the leagues, clubs, districts, the CCA, the press and the sporting public of the postponement of the eleventh day of Ligue 1 and the sixth day of Ligue 2. The LFP apologizes to all those involved for any inconvenience this postponement may cause”, stated the LFP press release, dated November 9.
The boycotters are demanding their share (25%) of the money granted by the Ministry of Sport through the Fonds national pour la promotion des sports et des loisirs (FNPSL). But the Federation was supposed to inject this money into the small category of clubs and as there is currently no championship at this level, the teams are asking for this grant to be paid to them so that they can function properly during the 2023-2024 season.
