Central African Republic (CAR) coach Raoul Savoy is confident his team is well prepared to give Ghana a fierce battle in the crucial qualifier game for their place in the 2024 AFCON tournament.
Savoy acknowledged the formidable challenge posed by the Ghanaian team, who are set to play at home in their final Group E game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
He recognized Ghana’s status as the “biggest team in the group” and the immense pressure that comes with the final qualifying match.
During the press breifing ahead of the game, Savoy said, “Of course, Ghana is playing at home and they are the favorites. It is the final game for both teams. They are the biggest team in the group, and it will be very tough, but we need to put up a fight against them and try our best to qualify.”
For the Black Stars, a mere point from the upcoming game would secure their qualification for the AFCON tournament scheduled to be held in Ivory Coast next January.
Chris Hughton noted that his players are ready for the clash against the Central African Republic.
“We are conscious of what this game means not only for the nation but myself, the players, and everybody involved. We know what this game means. We will do everything we can to get the result that we want to get,” Chris Hughton told the press.
The Ghana coach added, “Preparations have been good. We are playing at home. We have a good record here and we want to continue that.”
Chris Hughton’s Ghanaian squad currently leads Group E with nine points, standing just one point ahead of Angola and two points clear of the Central African Republic. Madagascar, on the other hand, occupies the bottom spot in the group with a total of two points.
Many have tipped the Central African Republic to upset the Black Stars of Ghana following their impressive 1-1 draw against a star-studded Nigerian side in their previous friendly game.
