Ghana international, Christian Atsu has been found dead in Turkey according to his agent Murat Uzunmehmet.
The former Chelsea player went missing days ago following an earthquake that struck the country. The 31-year-old was reportedly left under the rubble after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake and after days of intensive search, he’s been found lifeless.
There were news that the pacy winger was found and have been rushed to the hospital from the club but later turned to be false.
Atsu’s agent Murat Uzunmehmet confirmed on twitter saying, “Christian Atsu was found and unfortunately passed away.”
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce to all well wishers that sadly Christian Atsu’s body was recovered this morning“
“My deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support“, Atsu’s manager, Nana Sekyere wrote.
“I ask that whilst we make the necessary arrangements, that everyone would please respect the privacy of the family during this very difficult time“, he added.
Atsu who played for Turkish side, Hatayspor, was on target, scoring a last minute set piece to win all points at home against Kasimpasa, a day before the tragic incident.
The Ghanaian attacking midfielder began his European career with FC Porto and have had stint with Rio Ave as well in Portugal.
Atsu however moved in 2013 to English premier league side Chelsea for £3.5 million but was subsequently loaned to Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, AFC Bournemouth and Málaga.
He later sealed a permanent transfer to Newcastle United in May 2017, having spent the 2016–17 season on loan with the Magpies.
The former Black stars winger had a short stay with Saudi Arabian side Al-Raed before moving to Hatayspor in Turkey.
Atsu made his Black Stars debut in June 2012 against Lesotho, scoring in the process.
He won the player and goal of the tournament at the 2015 African cup of nations held in Equatorial Guinea.
